how things look different at home
There is no car ride in labor, no unfamiliar hallway to walk, no waiting to be assigned a room. Labor starts wherever you already are, and it stays there. Maybe your other children are right there with you, or asleep in the next room. Maybe your dog is curled up nearby, keeping watch the way dogs do. Your husband can walk to the refrigerator whenever he needs to, not down a hallway and back. There’s no outside influence here, no monitors beeping down the hall, no sounds of another mother laboring in the next room. Just your home, your family, and the space that’s already yours.
When it’s time, your midwife is already there, already knows your history, and never has to introduce herself for the first time while you’re in the hardest part of your work. Before we leave, we pack away the birth pool, start a load of laundry, and tuck you into a clean bed. You shouldn’t have to think about any of that in the hours after meeting your baby.
our labor & birth philosophy
Birth here is family-centered. It’s a mother moving intuitively, guided by her own body rather than a countdown, surrounded by people who trust that process too. It’s closeness that doesn’t break, even if resuscitation is needed; care that adds support without ever separating you from your baby. It’s suturing done gently, if it’s needed, and a transfer handled the same way, calmly, together, without it ever feeling like something went wrong. And through all of it, it’s not having to explain yourself- not your choices, not your body, not what you need. You are simply known and supported, exactly as you are.
“Every time I was overwhelmed while in labor, Shiane and Ellie worked seamlessly to help me understand what was going on and what I could do to make things less scary and overwhelming! When my baby was born they both jumped right into action with such a fierceness doing exactly what was needed! Their professionalism is something I wish everyone in the medical field could mimic.”
