water birth at home
Water has always known how to hold a laboring woman.
It takes her weight. It softens the edge of a contraction. And it asks nothing of her but to sink in.
why water
Water has the power to let the body move in ways the ground does not always allow. It does the heavy lifting. Kneeling, turning, floating, and leaning into a contraction instead of bracing against it.
Women who labor in water often need less. Less medication. Less intervention to move things along. Sometimes less time altogether.
how it works
The pool comes to you, liner included, nothing rented, nothing extra. We keep three on hand and aim to have yours waiting well before your due date.
Some clients use their own tub or shower instead, already familiar, easy. Both are beautiful ways to labor.
Water is never a decision you are locked into. Get in, get out, come back. There is no wrong sequence. The same care follows you everywhere in the house, in the water or out of it. We are simply watching, wherever you are.
Before labor, clients are provided a short list of items to have on hand, and simple instructions for filling the trough through your shower and a hose. Sometimes you fill it yourself. Sometimes we do.
Afterward, your birth team drains it, cleans it, and carries it out while you snuggle in bed with your baby.
